About GLO and Founder:

The vision of Guiding Light Outreach Inc. (GLO) was founded in 2012 when Shanika Ampah was moved to address the social ills of the South Dade communities. Shanika began with a vision, friends, family, and communities that embraced the services, including but not limited to feeding the homeless, girl empowerment groups, young gentlemen mentor club, and community gatekeeper. Shanika Ampah is an overcomer of several traumas, including childhood sexual abuse, child human trafficking, domestic violence, homelessness, substance abuse, and systemic failures.

About GLO

In 2014 GLO became a 501 (c3) not-for-profit organization that would continue these and other
community services while building partnerships with other advocates, allies, and agencies with a
common goal to better the community. In 2015 Shanika made the connection between her desire to
serve the community and her past. At the age of thirty-five, she was educated about human trafficking,
and for the first time, she was able to identify that what had happened to her as a from the age of elven
to eighteen was not her fault and that she was once a victim and now a survivor of human trafficking.
This brought clarity to the mission of being a lighthouse. The years of abuse and trauma equated to
being in darkness without any light or guidance. She just wants to be what she did not have throughout
those years.

Shanika Ampah is not only the founder and CEO of GLO, but she is also a mother of nine children, a
Licensed Practical Nurse (2012), an ordained evangelist (2015), a Certified Doula, and a Certified Life
Coach. Since 2016 she has become a public speaker, international advocate, and subject matter expert.
Shanika serves as a survivor leader and mentor to other survivors of trauma, especially human
trafficking. Her career path met her purpose in 2018 when she became the Outreach Nurse for the
THRIVE Clinic at the University of Miami providing medical care to patients who have survived human
trafficking.

In 2020, Shanika Ampah received an honorary doctorate from Trinity Theological Seminary of South
Florida in recognition of all her contributions to a better society. Also in 2020, she was honored by the
National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for Public Citizen of the Year. Dr. Ampah is also an
alumnus of the National Human Trafficking and Assistance Center (NHTTAC) and a graduate of the
Human Trafficking Leadership Academy (Class 3).  In 2022, Shanika participated in the Voices of
Freedom along with her colleague Nathan Earl to share their stories of being trafficked.

Their conversation was selected to be filed in the Library of Congress
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pl6ujAxBE54). Throughout the years and many hours dedicated to
her family and community now Dr. hc. Shanika Ampah continues to raise awareness by using her life
experiences and professionalism to bring light to the issues that impact our communities.
It only takes a little bit of light to cancel a whole lot of darkness so let your light GLO. – Dr.hc S. Ampah
